The black spring clip, located on the screwdriver, does not need to be removed. The clip is difficult to remove because of the lip near the top of the shaft. The clip can be twisted or rotated until the depression, which holds the ball bearing, is visible. Once the ball has been inserted, twist or rotate the clip back in place until the ball is properly seated in the clip.
