Why does my green "FULL" charge light go out after my unit is unplugged from an AC outlet after a few hours?

The green light blinks or shows as a steady full green light while the unit is connected to an AC outlet and charging, indicating a top charge condition. After a few hours of being unplugged, the battery's charge will drop back to a fully charged state and the green light will no longer appear. This is normal operation.
