If you placed a shorter bit, which is about 3/4" to 1" in length, into the shaft of the screwdriver and cannot remove it, you will need to use some sort of pliers to remove the bit.

Recommendation: A magnetic bit holder should be used and can be inserted into the shaft of the screwdriver first, and then the shorter bit inserted in the magnetic holder. Pliers are not needed to remove the bit from the holder, since the holder does not have as deep of a shaft.

2-inch bits can be used in the shaft of the screwdriver without needing pliers to remove the bit. The bit can be removed by pulling on the bit with your fingers.
