LST136 string trimmer

Neighbor has 10 year old LST136 that is now feeding lots of line and does not stop til trimmer is turned off. Instruction book only says to make sure line size is correct ( it is ) and that “inner” teeth on spool assembly may be worn.????
Any suggestions? I would like to help her if a cheaper solution is available.
