Black Decker 8000 BTU Portable AC filling up too fast and leaking

Hello,
I have been having some trouble with my Black and Decker 8000 BTU portable AC. A few weeks ago in the middle of the night the drain plug burst open and a lot of water poured out. There was no warning that the tank was full before hand. Ever since then we have had to drain it a few times a day. It will also leak water from time to time. Last year, per the manual, I only had to drain it at the end of the season before cleaning its filters and putting it away. It seems to be working less effectively as well.
