HFS rechargeable floor sweeper only operates a few seconds at a time

It's a couple years old, and has suddenly has started misbehaving. Pressing the button turns it on for a few seconds, then it stops. We can press the button more, and it keeps stopping after a few seconds.
We've cleaned it thoroughly, and can't find any mechanisms plugged or binding.
Nothing seems hot to the touch.
It must be charged correctly, because the red light doesn't come on when plugged back in.

HFS115J - I have this rechargeable stick vacuum! I have this exact issue! It starts fine but stops in 2-3 secs! Please can you someone suggest a fix for this issue??
