The speed should not be set to maximum, but on position 4, in order to avoid excessive heat generation of the pad and the work piece. Also make sure not to apply to much pressure on the tool during the sanding. It’s also important to make contact with the whole surface of the pad with the work piece. When you only make contact with the edge or the tip, you can damage the work piece. Also the pad will have traces of wear very quickly and will need to be replaced.
