leaf vacuum keeps truning off

I bought a new 40v max lithium hard surface sweeper vac. The battery shows a full charge. I've double checked that it was assembled correctly, and there is no blockage. The first time I used it I couldn't get it to turn on at all. I removed the battery and reattached it. It ran for about 3 seconds and shut off again. I tried this several times. Each time it (1) didn't run, (2) ran for a few seconds, or (3) once ran for about a minute before tuning off. What do I do?
